2026 Nissan Frontier

Performance  

Every 2026 Frontier model features a 3.8-liter V6 engine that delivers 310 horsepower and 281 lb-ft of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission—more than enough for this truck, which weighs only 4,709 pounds in its heaviest PRO-4X trim. All models come with standard Active Brake Limited-Slip, while PRO-4X models are upgraded with an electronic locking differential for added traction on different surfaces. The 2026 model year introduces a new drive mode selector, offering Rock, Sand, On-Road, Mud, and Hill Descent Control, giving drivers greater confidence and control across varied terrain. Selecting from these five modes adjusts key vehicle features to ensure Frontier drivers get the performance and capability they need in almost any situation.   

While towing capacities vary depending on the model, the Nissan Frontier can tow at least 6,880 pounds in the SV 4×4 trim and up to 7,150 pounds in the S 4×2 trim. The Frontier has a maximum payload capacity of 1,620 pounds. All Frontier trims come with standard Trailer Sway Control for added confidence and safety during towing.   

EPA city/highway/combined fuel mileage estimates for rear-wheel-drive models are 19/24/21, while most four-wheel-drive models are 17/21/19. The Pro4X model is rated at 16/20/18. 

Exterior  

This latest generation Frontier blends modern features and styling with classic touches from the ‘80s and ‘90s. A wide grille highlights the front of the Frontier and leads into a new headlight design, giving the vehicle a strong and commanding presence. For 2026, LED headlights, daytime running lights, and fog lights come standard on all models. Each 2025 Frontier trim level includes a standard sliding rear window. For those tired of vehicle colors in the white, silver, gray, and black spectrum, a new bold neon lime/yellow called Citrus Strike joins the previously introduced Afterburn Orange from last year. 

Buyers can choose between the four-door Crew Cab, and the two-door extended cab King Cab, available in either four- or two-wheel drive. They can also select a standard bed or a long bed—measuring 59.5 inches (5 feet) for the standard bed and 72.7 inches (6.1 feet) for the long bed. The King Cab Frontier comes with a long bed as its standard feature. The long-wheelbase, long-bed configuration is offered across the entire lineup.  

Interior  

One of the interior updates last year was a significant increase in cabin storage space, boosting interior storage capacity from 48.8 liters to 51.2 liters. Center console storage was expanded to 4 liters, with 6.5 liters in the front door pockets and 5.7 liters of pocket storage in the rear doors. There are a total of eight cup holders, including four in the doors of Crew Cab models that can hold 32-ounce bottles.   

The 2026 models build on last year’s insulation upgrade that reduced engine noise by five decibels, unnecessary road noise by 3 dB, and wind noise by 2.5 dB. Standard Zero Gravity seats, inspired by NASA design, don’t defy physics but help decrease driving fatigue on long trips by improving posture.   

Both PRO-X and PRO-4X models come with standard heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote engine start. PRO and SV trims also include an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat for 2026. All trims feature a telescopic-adjusting steering wheel.  

Technology  

The Frontier is designed to excel both on the road and off-road, especially with 4×4 models that feature advanced technology. With Nissan Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection and Off-Road Mode, you can see everything around the truck while driving off-road. The PRO-4X has cameras that automatically activate when the truck is shifted into 4LO, which is ideal for navigating tighter trails. When tackling certain trails, it’s usually best to have a spotter to prevent damage to your truck. However, with all the cameras, driving in tricky situations becomes much easier. In the latest update, the Off-Road Mode now functions at speeds up to 12 mph.   

An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard, with a new 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system available on SV and higher trims that adds wireless Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. PRO and higher grades include a wireless phone charger. The instrument cluster features a 7.0-inch Drive-Assist Display.  

All models feature two front USB ports, with one being USB-C, and two front 12V outlets. Crew Cab models add two rear USB ports, each also with one USB-C port. SV and PRO models include a 120V outlet with 400-watt capacity, accessible in the back seat and truck bed. These two trim levels can also be equipped with a 10-speaker Fender premium audio system.

A factory-installed dual camera drive recorder is available, mounted on the inside of the windshield. It records everything in front of the vehicle, providing video evidence in case of an emergency.
