2025 Nissan Versa Is The Last New Car You Can Buy For Under $20,000

New car prices haven’t been heading in the right direction over the last few years, with seemingly every model receiving a significant price hike. Vehicles on the affordable end of the spectrum haven’t had the best time during this process, as most have been discontinued or are becoming more expensive. The Nissan Versa is the exception to that rule. It’s the only new car on sale with a price tag below $20,000, and you don’t have to give up on having the best features and comfort to get it.

The 2025 Versa starts at just $18,330, and choosing the most expensive trim only pushes the price to $22,330. Under the hood, the car features a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine making 122 horsepower. The base S trim gets a manual transmission, while a continuously variable transmission is standard for all other models. The Versa offers reasonable acceleration for in-town commuting and highway cruises and maintains a comfortable ride quality in most situations.

Cloth upholstery comes standard, but higher trims get premium cloth or “sport cloth.” Heated front seats are available. Despite its compact size, the Versa is more than comfortable enough for four adults, and cargo space is above average for the class, at up to 15 cubic feet for most trims. The rear seats also fold flat in a 60/40 split, making the Versa a great cargo hauler when needed.

A 7-inch touchscreen comes standard, along with four speakers, voice commands, Bluetooth, and USB inputs. A larger 8-inch screen is available, which brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM, wireless charging, a 7-inch digital driver information display, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. Nissan’s infotainment interface is responsive and easy to use, and the display screen’s high resolution makes the system look fantastic.

Nissan packs a generous list of standard safety equipment at a reasonable price. Features include automatic emergency braking, forward collision alerts, pedestrian detection, lane departure alerts, a rearview camera, and automatic high beams. Available tech includes blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, a driver attention monitoring system, adaptive cruise control, and a rear-seat alert system.
