2026 Nissan Leaf Teased

The Nissan Leaf is the first real mass-produced EV. Introduced in 2009 as a 2010 model, it showed that American car buyers wanted a fully electric car. Now, the first mass-produced EV sold in America is set to evolve and help usher in an all-new electric standard across the brand.  

An All-New Lineup Coming Soon 

Nissan recently discussed the brand’s future with an emphasis on electric power. While the company will show off an updated Pathfinder and Sentra at the end of 2025, the Rogue will also get a plug-in hybrid option by the end of the year. An all-new Rogue featuring a PHEV model will debut next year, and then an Xterra-like EV SUV will follow in 2027.  

The Leaf Turns Over a New… Leaf 

However, the biggest news is that the all-new Leaf, set to be unwrapped in 2026, will leave behind the small hatchback design for a new, sleek SUV-like shape and usability. While the design of the current second-generation Leaf has been seen as attractive, car buyers prefer crossovers and SUVs to cars and hatchbacks in general. Nissan also claims that the third-generation Leaf will achieve an impressive 0.26 drag coefficient, making it more efficient than the current-gen Toyota Prius and in the ballpark of some Tesla models.  

2025 Nissan Leaf Price, Battery Capacities, and Future Range 

The current Nissan Leaf has a base price of $29,280 and comes in two trim levels: S with a 40-kWh battery and SV Plus with a 60-kWh battery. The S model has an EPA-rated range of 149 miles, while the SV Plus will travel 212 miles on a single charge. Nissan says the 2026 Leaf will have no problems traveling over 300 miles on a charge. 

Natively Charge at a Tesla Supercharger 

For buyers who need to charge on the road, the 2026 Nissan Leaf will have access to the Tesla Supercharger network thanks to being the first Nissan to use a NACS charging port that allows it to be compatible. So, there is no need to buy and carry an adapter anymore.  

Nissan Ariya EV Architecture 

In a short period of time, the Nissan Ariya has become a hit, including being named the best used EV for 2025 by Recurrent, the independent EV analyzer of owner data. It makes sense, then, that Nissan would utilize the CMF-EV architecture from the Ariya to help underpin the next Leaf.
