How the 2025 Nissan Armada earned its PRO-4X badge

As an all-new vehicle for 2025, the Nissan Armada has brought customers a luxurious and high-end 3-row SUV at a reasonable cost compared to some of its competition. And now, Nissan has released the Armada PRO-4X, which was engineered and tested to be extremely good off-road without compromising its supple on-road demeanor.  

A New Off-Road Model 

The Armada PRO-4X differentiates itself from other trim levels by offering a revised front fascia that allows for a better approach angle, unique 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires, metal underbody skid plating, an electronic locking rear differential, and Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension. 

An Engine That Comes from The GTR 

For 2025, the all-new Armada will be powered by a brand-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that is derived from the Nissan GTR and replaces the outgoing and aging 5.6-liter V8. With 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, the flagship Nissan SUV builds power quickly and efficiently, which not only allows for great passing power but also helps to tow up to 8,500 lbs when properly equipped. Thanks to a 9-speed automatic transmission, the Armada will always be in the right gear for any driving situation in which you find yourself.  

Standard Drive Wheels 

All models come standard with rear-wheel drive, while the PRO-4X is the only trim level that is standard with Intelligent 4WD. However, all Armada trim levels can also be optioned with 4WD.

“PRO-4X is about true capability,” said Brent Hagan, Senior Manager of Product Planning and Regional Product Manager for the 2025 Armada. “It’s about providing actual features that help you get to the backcountry.” 

Not Just a Pretty Face 

The 2025 Armada PRO-4X features multiple ways to use the vehicle’s exterior cameras to watch where you are going when off-roading, such as Invisible Hood View. This feature allows drivers to use the 14.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display to get a view through the engine bay to see where the front wheels are tracking and what’s under the vehicle. Nissan engineers worked hard in testing the PRO-4X in the Sonoran Desert at the company’s Arizona Testing Center (ATC) to ensure that customers were getting the absolute best SUV possible. The ATC features some very rugged terrain with lots of rocks, loose surfaces, steep inclines, gullies, and the like. This is where the Armada PRO-4X was honed.
