Make Your Nissan More Pet Friendly with New Nissan Accessories
Nissan interior designers spend a great deal of time creating the cabins of Nissan products. They constantly consider appearance, feel, and both immediate and long-term durability. The thing is, they are optimizing these interiors for people. And people generally do not have sharp nails and drool when nervous or excited. They won’t stand up and walk around the interior while the vehicle is moving, either. But pets do. So often, these meticulously designed interiors need a little help in providing the best environment for pet owners. Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington wants you to know that Nissan’s accessory department has it covered.
Some dogs love to ride in the car, while others don’t like it at all. One consistent thing is that they won’t keep still. A quality seat cover is the solution to protecting your seat from all this movement. The seat cover is designed for your specific Nissan model, which you cannot find anywhere but from Nissan.
“Many off-the-shelf covers are not made for your specific vehicle, so they can move around, allowing dirt to get on the seat or nails to scratch things,” said Rachel Edwards, Nissan Senior Planner of Accessory Product Planning. “Many also don’t take into consideration the locations of things like seatbelts or the anchors for child seats.”
Edwards is a pet owner herself, with two adult Boxers, and her personal experience with non-model-specific pet accessories helped Nissan design accessories to fit each individual Nissan model.
“Accessory engineering did a great job of customizing them to fit the seats and the cargo area,” said Edwards. For instance, the Seat Protectors have multiple panels and zippers, so the 60/40-folding seat functionality isn’t compromised: “You don’t have to undo the whole pet cover – you can just unzip one side and lay that seat down.”
Nissan’s pet accessories extend beyond seat covers to include dog harnesses of four different sizes that act like seatbelts to keep your dog in place during sudden movements or an impact. There are also cargo pet protectors that can be removed and cleaned easily, as well as a pet carrier for animals 25 pounds and under.
As an example of how concept vehicles can impact production models, two Nissan concept vehicles inspired Nissan’s pet accessories. The X-Trail 4Dogs, based on a European-market crossover, and the Rogue Dogue, which debuted at the 2017 New York International Auto Show, prompted pet product questions to the accessories team. For Edward, this gave her an opportunity to combine two passions. “Not only am I a dog lover, but I also love our Nissan vehicles,” she said. “It has been fun working on these products to bring Genuine Nissan Accessories to drivers who love to spoil their pets while protecting their Nissan or INFINITI vehicle.”
