New Nissan Kicks Shows How To Do Affordable
Buying an affordable car doesn’t always mean that you’ll get the best features or the level of comfort you want, but that’s not the case with the new Nissan Kicks. The subcompact SUV got a significant update for the 2025 model year, bringing a new all-wheel-drive option, more upscale styling, improved technology, and more safety features. It offers one of the most affordable starting prices in the industry, and Nissan included the right features and design for buyers.
Updated Styling
The new Kicks picked up muscular styling, with boxier lines and clean accents. Its new taillight design features a unique shape with a gloss-black accent strip connecting them. Nissan also avoided using too much black plastic body components, giving the Kicks a more upscale and expensive look. The interior has a nice mix of materials that gives the space visual appeal, and Nissan included a mix of physical and on-screen controls that make it easier and less distracting to interact with the vehicle while driving.
The interior is more spacious than before, with an increase in shoulder and knee room in both rows of seating. It also offers a healthy 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which expands to 60 cubic feet with the seats folded flat. There’s also a hidden storage space beneath the trunk floor, and the SV and SR trims have a two-level cargo space.
Powertrain Features
The Kicks gets a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 141 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a continuously variable transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. While 141 horsepower may not seem like a lot, it’s more than enough to move the Kicks with gusto, and that number represents a 19-pony bump over the outgoing model. Fuel economy is also quite strong, at 28/35/31 mpg city/highway/combined.
Technology Features
Inside, the SUV comes standard with a pair of 7.0-inch displays for the gauge cluster and infotainment system. Top trims step up to dual 12.3-inch screens and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Nissan also equips a range of advanced driver assistance technologies, with the automaker’s Nissan Safety Shield 360 standard for all models. The package includes forward collision warnings, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, lane departure warnings, automatic high beams, and more. The S and SV trims add adaptive cruise control, and the top SR trim gets ProPilot Assist, which builds on adaptive cruise control with lane centering and traffic jam assistance.
