Nissan Murano Platinum Bumps Up Against Luxury Competitors

May 20th, 2025 by

The more people get behind the wheel of the all-new 2025 Nissan Murano, the more they realize that this is one of the best luxury SUVs on the market without having to pay the ultra-luxury tax that is becoming so common these days. While the Murano is a totally new vehicle, it hasn’t lost the charm that made buyers initially fall in love with it. It is usable but sporty. It’s stylish but doesn’t shout too loudly.

A New Review on YouTube

Recently, Driven Car Reviews with Tom Voelk on YouTube got his hands on the brand-new Nissan and absolutely raved about it, saying, “Murano blurs between mainstream and luxury transportation. It’s not a wallflower that blends in. It has character and personality …”

The Murano Performed Well in All Weather Conditions

During his week with the Murano, Tom was able to test it in normal weather conditions, as well as in snowy and somewhat icy conditions. Luckily, the model he tested, a top-of-the-line Platinum with all-wheel drive, was ready for such conditions and handled the weather with ease. Granted, Tom is also from Minnesota, a state that knows a thing or two about winter, but he said the Nissan performed admirably with no issues or hiccups.

A Completely New Drivetrain That Buyers Will Love

One of the first things mentioned in the video review is that this is the first all-new Murano since the last generation debuted all the way back in 2014, and a lot has changed since then. For instance, the engine is one of the more significant differences between this new model and the previous generation. The V6 is gone, as is the continuously variable transmission (CVT), and taking over is a VC-Turbo 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 that produces 241 horsepower and 261 lb-ft of torque that has the added advantage of having power routed through a 9-speed automatic transmission. This is a welcome change for many who love the Murano but always felt the transmission could have been more responsive and better suited to the crossover. Unlike many luxury vehicles that call for high-octane fuel for turbocharged engines, the new Murano can also use regular gasoline. The EPA says that both the FWD and AWD 2025 Murano will achieve 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg when on the highway, with 23 mpg combined.

Three Trim Levels Priced Modestly

Buyers looking at the 2025 Murano can choose between three trim levels: SV, SL, and Platinum. Pricing starts from $41,860 and moves up to around the $55,000 as-tested price of the model reviewed by Tom Voelk. Front-wheel drive is standard on the SV, with all-wheel drive optional. SL and Platinum trims do come with AWD as standard. Buyers will love the fact that the Platinum also comes with massaging front seats and a head-up display system. SV and SL models come standard with 20-inch wheels with a unique aero cover, and the Platinum has 21-inch wheels with an aero cover.

The Interior Is Where Most Will Fall in Love

While the exterior is visually striking and unique, the interior is equally remarkable, which is good since that’s where you’ll spend most of your time. When discussing the interior, Tom said, “What Murano offers is ambiance … the cabin is a soothing space with minimalist design and crisp ambient LED strakes. Wonder Woman will feel right at home with the Invisible Hood View, good for tricky parking situations and navigating car wash tracks. Nissan puts its supportive Zero Gravity seat tech in the back as well.”

Perfect Interior Features

Drivers will love the new dual 12.3-inch displays, one for the digital cluster while the other is the touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are featured across all trim levels. As mentioned, the Nissan Gravity Seats, which are standard for front passengers, are now also featured for rear passengers. These seats are specifically engineered to keep the driver and passengers’ bodies from getting fatigued on longer drives. Throughout the interior, including around the screens, are soft-touch materials, with some being stitched. An available 64-color ambient lighting feature brings warmth and calm in all situations. Nissan gave the Murano a push-button shifter, which allowed for a good bit of space in the center console area.

Excellent Standard Safety Features

A Nissan is only as good as its safety tech, though, and the latest Murano does not disappoint. Standard on all models is Nissan Safety Shield 360, which brings Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, High Beam Assist, Bling Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Automatic Braking, Lane Departure, and more. The available ProPILOT Assist utilizes Cruise Control and Steering Assist for hands-free highway driving. SV and Platinum models get ProPILOT Assist 1.1, which uses the navigation system to know whether curves are coming ahead and slows down accordingly.

In Conclusion

“Should you test drive the new Murano? Absolutely. This is a big improvement. For one thing, it’s got a 9-speed transmission now; no CVT. It looks good inside and out, this cabin is very nice. It’s moderately quiet. It’s comfortable. It handles well. And the all-wheel drive system works pretty well, glad I can test that.”
