Nissan Puts its Best Foot Forward with the All-New Armada

Everyone is loving the all-new 2025 Nissan Armada, especially car journalists who are testing the full-size SUV against its main rivals, including its more expensive cousin, the Infiniti QX80. A new review by Car and Driver sees reviewer David Beard say, “The Armada’s generational improvements make it more competitive than ever. It’s time for a battle of the big rigs.” 

What’s Under the Hood? 

For as long as the Armada has been available in America, it has featured a 5.6-liter V8 under the hood. However, the 2025 model sees the V8 retire for a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 that puts out 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 25 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque. While most turbocharged engines force owners to pump 91 or 93 octane to satisfy the vehicle, the new 3.5-liter in the Armada only needs 87 octane to unleash all of its ponies.  

Price and Trim Levels 

The 2025 model starts at $59,530 and is available in five trim levels: SV, SL, Platinum, PRO-4X, and Platinum Reserve. 

Car and Driver’s Performance Testing 

Car and Driver took time to highlight the fantastic speed that this new SUV can conjure up, saying, “Nissan tuned this V-6 to run on regular gas, so it’s down 25 horses to its luxury stablemate, the Infiniti QX80, which slurps premium. Yet at the track, the 6085-pound Pro-4X sped to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds and covered the quarter-mile in 14.4 seconds at 98 mph, 0.2 and 0.1 second quicker than the 406-pound-heavier QX.” In testing the top-of-the-line Platinum Reserve trim, which is a bit heavier than the off-road-ready PRO-4X, the magazine was able to tie the performance of the QX80. 

A Size Comparison 

Where the new Armada sets itself apart from the previous generation is in its use of overall interior and exterior size. Both vehicles share the same 121.1-inch wheelbase, the 2025 Nissan is 0.7-inch longer overall, 3.4 inches wider (with the mirrors folded), between 0.8 and 2.2 inches taller (depending on trim level), and has an extra 0.2-0.7 inch of ground clearance at 9.6 and 9.9, which depends on the trim level.  

How Much Cargo Space Does the Armada Have? 

Even though Nissan didn’t drastically change in size between the 2024 and 2025 models, the new SUV grew in every way, including 20.4 cubic feet behind the third row, up from 16.5 in the 2024 Armada. When the third-row seats are folded, the new 2025 Armada has 56.3 cubic feet of space and 97.1 cubic feet when all rows behind the front seats are folded down. This is an increase of 6.4 and 1.7 cubic feet, respectively. Third-row legroom is also more accommodating, with 34.5 inches versus 28.4 inches for the previous model. 

Highway Cruising Made Easy 

Drivers can take advantage of the new technology and features of the Armada with ProPilot Assist. This system uses Intelligent Cruise Control to keep the vehicle centered in its lane and ensures a safe distance from the vehicles in front. It comes standard on SV and Pro-4X trims. SL, Platinum, and Platinum Reserve can add ProPilot Assist 2.1, which further allows drivers to take their hands off the wheel on certain roads and let the Armada handle those duties, as well as braking and accelerating.

There is plenty to write home about with the latest Armada, but with the inclusion of Nissan Safety Shield 360, the vehicle is extra safe. Standard safety features include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, High Beam Assist, Blind Spot Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Rear Automatic Braking, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, plus Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention, and Intelligent Lane Intervention. Thanks to these features and the brilliant engineering, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the 2025 Armada with the coveted Top Safety Pick+ designation, denoting it was one of the safest vehicles on sale today.
