Nissan Rogue Wins Newsweek Award For Top Vehicle for New Parents
It used to be a practical sedan or maybe a 4-door hatchback that would be the go-to car for small families. However, today, it is the compact crossover that covers that blend of space, utility, and economy that new parents need. That is likely why compact crossovers make up the best-selling segment in the U.S. Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington is happy to announce that the 2024 Nissan Rogue was named a Top Pick in the New Parents category in the 2024 Newsweek Autos Awards.
This was no doubt helped by the fact that the Rogue received a significant refresh for the 2024 model year, which included revised styling, newly available technology, and, for the more active new families, the introduction of the Rock Creek model. It could also be that the Rogue offers the most standard safety features in its class.
“We are honored that the editors of Newsweek recognized the convenient, family-friendly features of the Nissan Rogue with this ‘Top Pick’ award,” said Ponz Pandikuthira,
Senior Vice President and Chief Planning Officer, Nissan Americas. “The customer is at the heart of all we do, and this latest award for Rogue is a superb endorsement of Nissan’s commitment to excellence in meeting the mobility needs of our customers and their families.”
Among those safety features, all 2024 Rogue models are equipped with the Nissan Safety Shield® 360, which includes:
- Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection
- Blind Spot Warning
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Lane Departure Warning
- Rear Automatic Braking
Rear Door Alert is another great feature for new families, which reminds drivers that they may need to check the rear seats before they leave. The system monitors when the rear passenger doors are opened and closed before and after the vehicle is in motion. If the rear door is used before a trip but is not re-opened after the ignition is off and the car is in park, a series of notifications will remind the driver to check the rear seats. Though a safety feature, the technology was inspired by Nissan USA Industrial Engineer Elsa Foley and Mechanical Engineer Marlene Mendoza after she left a tray of lasagna in her car overnight. “The worst thing was the car smelled for days, but it made me ask myself, ‘What if that had been something else back there?’”.
The Rogue design accommodates new parents in another significant way. The rear doors open nearly 90 degrees, making it easier to get a child seat in and out of the vehicle or the child in and out of the car seat. In addition, the rear seat offers flexible and convenient child seat installation in all three seating positions – so adults or older children can sit on either side of a center-positioned child seat.
Of course, the Rogue has plenty of room for the surprising amount of things it takes to move a tiny little person from one place to another with 36.5 cubic feet with the 2nd-row seats in place. There are 74.1 cubic feet of space when the seats are down, and you are bringing home a new piece of furniture for the nursery. Add the innovative 1.5-liter VC-Turbo engine to deliver great fuel economy, and the Rogue is a winner, just as Newsweek found.
If you are a new parent in need of a new car, or just anyone who wants an excellent compact crossover, come to Dick Smith Nissan of Lexington and test-drive the award-winning Rogue.
