What Is Nissan ProPILOT Assist 2.1?

Nissan ProPilot AssistNissan’s ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is a new hands-free driving assistance system that lets you breathe a little easier on the highway. So long as the driver’s eyes remain on the road ahead, ProPILOT 2.1 will utilize Nissan’s Intelligent Cruise Control with steer-by-wire assist to accelerate, brake, and steer — allowing drivers to relax their hands and let technology take over.

ProPILOT Assist 2.1 is enabled across an extensive network of highways that were individually mapped and modeled by Nissan to allow the system to operate without driver intervention. So long as you’re on one of these roads, you can enable ProPILOT Assist 2.1 and take your hands off the wheel and your feet off the pedals; just be sure to keep your eyes on the road, or ProPILOT Assist will prompt you to take manual control.

Nissan ProPilot Assist Button on Steering WheelHow does ProPILOT Assist 2.1 work?

There’s nothing to it! When you enter one of Nissan’s pre-mapped highways, an icon will appear in the information display to let you know that the system is ready. At this point, all you need to do is press the ProPILOT Assist button on your Nissan’s steering wheel. The car will take over, allowing you to release the wheel and lift your foot off the pedals.

If you approach slower traffic, ProPILOT Assist 2.1 can handle that, too! When the icon appears in the information display indicating a slower vehicle ahead, just put your hands back on the wheel and tap the button to confirm a lane change. ProPILOT will do the rest, from activating the turn signal to steering into the passing lane to complete the maneuver. When you’re ready to return to your previous travel lane, just put your hands back on the wheel and signal a lane change. It’s that simple!

If you’ve been lingering in the passing lane too long, Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist 2.1 will prompt you with a reminder to move back into the travel lane, helping to promote good traffic flow and allowing you to focus on the road ahead.
